hey, I’m Avalon! ❤️
Welcome to my weird little corner of the internet, inspired by the old web!
(»» This is me teaching yoga at a 3 day long goth festival weekend in country Victoria, Australia!)
~ about me
I love going to metal gigs, queer nights, art galleries, and goth clubs. And I’m also pretty sure that good desserts are pretty much the point of life lol.
I freelance as a professional resumé writer and have started taking on small website commissions (opening again soon) - I really enjoy the freedom of getting to work from wherever I like! I’m a qualified yoga teacher and love getting to teach in interesting settings, like the alt rock online fitness studio I work for, and do stuff my teenage self would have loved - like having a pint in New Zealand’s Hobbiton! 🍺
But most often, you’ll find me curled up somewhere reading fantasy fiction, digging up archived pieces of the old web, hanging out with my wife and friends, or making some bit of art or other.
~ bring back personal websites!
I made this site (even paid for a domain name and everything!) because social media stresses me out - has always stressed me out if I’m honest - and I wanted my sense of calm and creativity and actual fun on the internet back.
(Because, well, capitalism happened to the internet and now it’s anywhere from stressful to just unfulfilling.)
And the frustrating thing is that the internet started out so much fun! We were all so excited to get home or to the library and hop on a computer - because so many exciting things were out there to explore.
Websites on the old web were so individual that they felt like real places. Visiting a favourite site was like hanging out in someone’s decorated digital bedroom or decadent mansion. Every website was a world, or a lounge, or a house, with all these hidden pockets and links you could explore and get lost in at 2 in the morning.
And a really good website stayed with you, just like a good book or series.
So when I made this site, I wanted to bring that website-as-art-form back: a place that’s completely my own, full of personality, and slowly expanding into a digital lounge room that’s fun for me to decorate and fun for others to explore.
I’m definitely no expert on coding or anything, I’m just a random alt girl who wants the internet to actually be fun again!
And it’s working, honestly. I spend so much time designing and writing on my little corner of the internet and leave feeling happy instead of anxious and disillusioned. I love looking at other people’s interesting sites on places like Neocities, mmm.page and Nekoweb. Personal websites are just fun!
I think of this little site as an ongoing art project. Or like a magazine from 2008. Expect a lot of y2k web nostalgia, bright colours and sparkles!
And while I’ve tried to make this site mobile-friendly, for a real y2k web experience you’ll want to browse on desktop - you’ll find fun things there that you can’t see on mobile. :)

~ fun facts
🖤 I tried to do emo/scene hair for a hot minute back in 2010. Then I got tired of lugging hair spray around in my bag.
🖤 My ethnic background is East Asian, East European, and Scottish-Australian.
🖤 I have a psychology degree and used to work as a therapist for folks with complex trauma.
🖤 I’m more than a little obsessed with Lord of the Rings and I guarantee I can bore you with facts about the history of Middle-Earth for literal hours lol.
🖤 I want to see an internet where we’re actually creating as well as consuming - and falling in love with the web again.
~ socials (which i barely use, fair warning!)

(but most often, you’ll find me hanging around here on my website updating my status and layout just like in the MySpace days, and slowly making new + pretty blog posts!)
